Elephants
Elephants are the largest land mammals on earth. They are 5 to 14 feet at shoulders. Females are smaller than males. Their length is up to 30 feet from trunk to tail. They weigh 6,000 to 15,000 pounds. Elephants are brown to dark in color. They have very thick skin. Their skin can keep them cool. They have large hanging ears, a small tail, little eyes, and long white tusks. They also have thick legs, huge sides and backs. Above all, elephants have a long nose, called trunk.
The trunk is the elephant's peculiar feature. It has various uses. Elephants draw up water by their trunk and can squirt it all over their body like a shower bath. They can also use it to lift leaves and put them into their mouth. In fact, the trunk serves the elephant as a long arm and hand.
Elephants are very intelligent animals. An elephant's intelligence combined with its great strength makes it useful for human. Elephants can be trained to serve in various ways such as carry heavy loads, hunt for tigers, and even fight.
